Lovesick (2024) is my first longform comic project, which I self published. Its story follows an unlucky in love microbiologist who finally finds the one in a deadly bacteria she’s become infected with. It is 28 pages long, not including the cover. It is riso printed, the interior in hunter green and fluorescent pink on husky paper, and the cover in hunter green on fluorescent yellow paper. I used riso’s inherent limited colour palette to my advantage here by including more pink page by page as our protagonist gets both sicker and more enamoured. Every part of this project was a learning experience, from the scripting to the printing and assembly process, and it got me really excited to create more comic work in the future.
